Whilst cruising down the freeway this afternoon I got stuck behind an STI camped out in the left lane with miles of open road in front of him. When the opportunity presented itself I politely moved over a lane and continued my drive. Well, 20-something vaping dudebro seemed to take major offense to this.
He moved over three lanes, passing people dangerously on the far right, probably doing triple digit speeds, and got back around to the left lane and pulled up next to me. He gave me what appeared to be a ‘WTF?’ look, like who was I to dare pass him. I waved him off, not a middle finger or anything rude, and continued along my journey whilst he slowed down and resumed his blocking of the #1 lane.
Other than passing douchebro on the right, something I am loathe to do, my driving was polite, and in no way responsible for the ire of dudebro. Yes, I was speeding, but that’s not for him to enforce, especially after his incredibly stupid 100+ MPH blast on the far right lanes of the freeway. Assholes like this should be sentenced to something like a Chevette Diesel for a year; at least when you dare to have the temerity to pass them you won’t have to worry about seeing them again until next wee k...

Left-lane campers have made passing lanes completely irrelevant in my mind. Most of the time on long drives I pass people while in the far right lane right before it turns into an exit. Get past the group of drivers, enjoy ten miles or so of clear roads, then do it again....

A little harsh, don’t you think? Unconstitutional even. (severe and unusual punishment and all that).
We can compromise with just breaking his legs so he can’t
drive
for a while.

I dislike passing people on the right too, but if they are camped out in the left lane for no particular reason I don’t hesitate. That’s what 12 years of california driving will do to you.

I don’t like to pass on the right, but if there is room and time for me to safely pass, then there was room and time for you to safely move over.

I h ad 29 years of California driving under my belt before moving to the Midwest. Compared to SoCal, the freeways are relatively empty out here and lane discipline is pretty good. But no matter where you go you will always find colossal dickheads driving more powerful cars than their shit attitudes should allow (*cough* 90% of G35/G37 coupe drivers *cough*)...

I’ve only had two people (that I can remember) that started driving/acting silly when they saw the 348. Both looked like under 23 douchbros and they were both in a wrx/sti. Both times I acknowledged that yes, they do in fact exist, and just kept on my merry way. Like, idk what they wanted out of the situation. Neither revved their engines to pretend to race, and neither gave the typical thumbs up (or middle finger). Just kinda hung out acting silly before zooming off. Cool talk, bro. *shrugs*
Edit: Neither sti owner was wrongwheeldrive. He’s cool. haha

“Assholes like this should be sentenced to something like a Chevette Diesel for a year;”
For a first offense.
For a second offense, they need to be limited to a bicycle.

Actually, I’m for this for ALL drivers.
Now that I pootle in a C7 the aggregate aggro level is too high in any traffic I am present in.

And give drivers even more ammunition to complain about cyclists? How is that fair?

You know, I didn’t have these kinds of problems when driving the 968, but that was 20 years ago, and I think attitudes have changed over the years as cars have gotten more powerful. People tried to race me all the time in that car, but I never did, assuming that cops were on the lookout for speeding Porsches and confined my antics to the track.
Probably the thing that pissed off douchebro the most was that some commoner in a *gasp* minivan decided to pass Mr self-righteous Speed Racer. Oh yeah, he really put me in my place - wank er...

I was going to say, I pass on the right virtually every single time I am on local highways on weekends (most weekdays are too jammed to make lane discipline a thing).

Okay okay... limit them to TRICYCLES.... or UNICYCLES.

I t’ s everywhere. No later than today, a nice Go lf R on the freeway, left lane with nobody in front, for miles, then cuts 3 lanes at the last possible moment to take the exit on the right. What ....... ?
I see the youths, every other day, the young people are merging on the freeway and switching immediately to the mostest leftest lane possible, then crawl along. (a ll while typing on their phones).
I saw a rider education car a while back, driving on the left lane on an empty road with no intersection for miles.
Is this a new unofficial but widely understood and accepted rule, that if you’re black you’ll get shot by the cops the proper lane is on the left ? Is it what you guys learn in this country ?

My strategy involves alternately ignoring them, or when it’s particularly bad enough for me to want to distance myself from it, I’ll shoot through an open space and get about 20 car lengths ahead.
If they come back from that, they’re usually doing 100+ and then I just duck out of the way while they go on to make asses of themselves.

I do my part in undoucheing the STi population. Every time I do something “aggressive” I feel bad, like I have to especially take care to not do that in the Subaru. In a Miata, I dont have to care though because everyone surely assumes I am either a hairdresser or a boomer.

Back in my GTI days, actually my last few days I had it, I was headed to visit family in Alabama. I got trapped behind someone doing 63 in the left, and someone doing 61 in the right. I shot the gap at about 94, as I passed a state trooper. Didn’t move. He knew.

funny enough - I have a very similar story in a WRX around Yarnell, AZ, same speed. He moved, though, and we had a nice little chat.

I can attest they even do it to other WRX drivers... but I still have the most issues with dudebro trucks. I think there may be a common appeal for folks with that particular personality trait...

Lol. To be fair, in the same stretch at the same throttle position, he probably would have moved if this were in the Vette.

It’s so funny to me that people have a problem with being passed on the right in some areas.
Around here the difference between cruising speed can vary as much as 40mph on the freeway. I usually set my cruise at the speed limit (65mph) and sit in the right lane and it’s pretty much inevitable that I’ll pass multiple people (going slower than the speed limit, and allergic to the right lane for whatever reason ) on the right on my commute. Also if I happen to jump into the left lane to pass slower traffic, it’s pretty inevitable that someone will fly up behind me doing 90, tailgate me, jump over right a lane , cutting off the car I was passing, and then blow by me.

That will show you!
I’m very glad people do not really try to race me. My friend in the midwest has this problem a lot everytime he’s in one of his fun cars. Not only am I not an idiot (well, I am an idiot, just not dumb enough to street race), my car has much less power than most modern sports cars. Nothing to gain, but a lot to lose.

Agreed on a lot of brotrucks. I know some legitimately good people who own brodozer(ish) vehicles, but as a norm, it seems like certain personalities are drawn to these types of vehicles.

The lane discipline not being a thing is part of the reason why the road is so jammed. Until traffic is at a complete standstill in every lane, things could be improved by having cars stay right and pass left. Not just go left until you run out of lanes and then let chaos ensue.
It is baffling to me that a dozen or so cars could clog up an entire 4-5 lane freeway making it impassable and trundle along at 50 mph.

Fighting the good fight! I try to not drive like a dick in the Ferrari BC I also don't want to contribute to a stereotype. Things happen but I do make a conscious effort to be polite. In general, I feel like I have a few things that pull me towards the douchenozzle side of life, but I try to make up for that by being calm and kind. It doesn't always work out though lol

I find that no matter what speed you go, you will always find someone going slower. It’s always more impressive to me how slow some people can go, much more so than the 100mph+ lunatics who just appear and disappear on the regular bouncing between lanes and seeming to teleport down the roadway.

Nah.
Make it a Chevette Scooter Automatic.
You might get as much as 15 more horsepower (as little as 1 more horsepower) ... but enjoy that 3-speed automatic eating all your power. .. If it’s pre-1982, it’s not even a lockup automatic.
And enjoy that cardboard interior.

Oh man, that photo is basically my exact car... Ouch. I try my best not to add to the stereotype.
I don’t understand why people get mad about being passed. It doesn’t slow them down or affect them in any way. They can even continue on camping in the left lane if that’s what gets them off. I’m usually just embarrassed if I’ve ended up getting passed on the right.

I had this problem driving the Vette. Douchebros always wanted to race, and if there was mustang it was a better than 50% chance it would try to race me.
